Golf can be good for your career

  1. I need to learn the game of golf for business, how do I get started?

There are many ways to get started in the game for business or recreation. First you can go to PGA.com or LPGA.com and use the Pro Finder search to find a professional in your area that teaches. Find out what type of programs they offer and if there are other business women you can connect with. You may want to do group instruction to start and then move into a private instruction program or a “coaching program” designed for you.

  2. What is the difference between an LPGA and PGA Professional?

The purpose of the LPGA Teaching Division is to certify their members in teaching only. The PGA of America trains and certifies its member in all areas of the golf business. Many PGA professionals focus solely on teaching however, others do not teach at all. The other difference is that the LPGA is only for women, and the PGA of America is open to both men and women.

  3. Should I attend a school or a one-day clinic?

Yes, this is a great way to get started and meet other women like you. For women it is very important to network and have a support system in the game of golf.

  4. Where do I find a school or a clinic?

You may want to check out your local EWGA Chapter (Executive Women Golf Association) to see if they offer programs (See links below for more info on EWGA). You may also go to Playgolfamerica.com for programs in your area. In addition, there are schools offered just for women at local courses in many areas across the country. There are programs offered for Women on this website.

In addition, there are many companies that host their own events and/or sponsor other events where senior level executives participate. You don’t want to be left behind in the clubhouse!

  6. Is it as hard as it looks?

The great aspect about golf is that there is room for all types of players. Because you are playing the course and not playing someone head to head, you can play with anyone. If you can walk or drive a car you can learn to play golf.

  7. Will playing golf open doors for me in business?

Yes, consider some of the prominent women in business, Kerrii Anderson, CEO of Wendy’s, Patricia Woertz, the CEO of ADM and Melinda Gates, just to name a few. 90% of all Fortune 500 CEO’s play.
